The Black Commerce Student Network at McIntire (BCSN) provides black pre-Commerce and Commerce students with the necessary support and resources to strengthen their community and ensure success at the McIntire School of Commerce. BCSN strives to address the professional needs of its members in order to build corporate leaders with an unfaltering commitment to inspire their successors.
- Work more closely with pre-Commerce students and the Office of Admission to increase the number of black students enrolled in McIntire
- Create a more cohesive and attractive support community for black students currently enrolled in McIntire by increasing the visibility of available support resources
- Broaden the types of events BCSN hosts to increase awareness and interest in the concentrations and tracks of Marketing, Information Technology, Management, and Entrepreneurship
Third-Year “Pre-Orientation": Fourth-year Commerce students welcome incoming third-years and help them prepare for the coming semester with advice on navigating the classroom, resolving team conflicts, and managing stress. (BCSN Newsletter)
General Body Meetings: BCSN strives to have regular meetings to connect with its membership. During these meetings, members discuss the organization's goals and how they plan to achieve them, as well as upcoming events and engagement opportunities. At several meetings, guest speakers also discuss a wide range of topics with BCSN members.
"Dean’s Dos and Don'ts": Co-sponsored with the Latino Student Network, BCSN holds sessions led by Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Rebecca Leonard, who speaks with pre-Commerce students about the application process. She and current Commerce students offer tips on how to excel in completing their Comm School applications.
EY Networking Event: The Office of Undergraduate Admission annually hosts a Business Skill Development Day event with Ernst & Young. First- and Second-year students spend the day learning soft skills and networking and workplace preparation. The day concludes with a networking lunch with EY professionals and presidents of various McIntire-affiliated affinity groups.
