Professor McDermott has expertise in auditing and financial reporting. Her research focuses on firms’ application of accounting standards, the quality of the resulting accounting information, and how that information is used in managers’ and investors’ decisions. In the classroom, Professor McDermott is passionate about developing her students into mindful, emotionally intelligent leaders.
Professor McDermott was a faculty member at Georgetown University before joining the McIntire School. At Georgetown University, she taught financial reporting courses at the undergraduate, evening M.B.A., and full-time M.B.A. levels. Before pursuing her doctoral studies at The University of North Carolina, Professor McDermott worked as a Senior Auditor for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Chicago. She is a registered CPA in Illinois and is a recipient of the Elijah Watt Sells Award for having one of the 10 highest national scores on the CPA exam.
