Awards and Honors

Federation of Schools of Accountancy Student Achievement Award
Clesson Allman Jr.

The Student Achievement Award is presented each year to a graduate student in recognition of superior academic achievement, leadership, and professionalism in a post-baccalaureate accounting program.

David W. Thompson Award in Accounting
Jocelyn Kelley

Established by the McIntire Accounting faculty, this award commemorates the decades of service and leadership provided to the profession by retired faculty member David W. Thompson. The criterion for selection is the outstanding potential for contribution to the profession, as judged by the Accounting faculty.

National Association of Accountants Carman G. Blough Award
Bonnie Zhang

This award honors a graduating student selected by the Accounting faculty based on an excellent academic record in accounting and evaluation of the individual’s prospects for success in the field of accounting.

George Wasserman Distinguished Award in Marketing
Caroline Burda

A superlative student with superior academic performance who shows extraordinary promise for a career in marketing is selected by the Marketing faculty for this award.

William F. O’Dell Distinguished Award in Marketing
Eryn Cohen

Honoring distinguished former McIntire faculty member, past president of the American Marketing Association, and founder of Market Facts Inc. William F. O’Dell, this award is conferred on an outstanding Marketing student who is also a member of the Advertising and Marketing Association student organization. The award is determined by demonstrated leadership and dedication to the student organization, School, and University.

Henry R. Odell Distinguished Award in Management
Nadim Najjar

Endowed by Henry R. Odell upon his retirement from the McIntire Management faculty, this award is given to a top fourth-year student who shows academic excellence, outstanding unusual promise in the field of management, and significant leadership contribution.

Joseph Goldsten Distinguished Award in Finance
Megan Bruce

Established by a School alumnus, this award is presented to the student or students who show the most promise in the financial industry. The recipient is selected by the Finance faculty.

Center for the Management of Information Technology Emerging Leader in IT Award
Sebastian Heinonen

This award is presented to a fourth-year student who has exhibited exceptional academic performance within the Commerce School while simultaneously demonstrating the core attributes of an emerging leader—excellent communication skills, innovative spirit, quiet confidence, integrity, and respect for others.

F. Evans Farwell Distinguished Achievement Award
Erica Kim

This award was established by 1929 McIntire alumnus F. Evans Farwell to recognize a student who makes the greatest academic progress while at the McIntire School.

Z Society Edgar F. Shannon Award
Jeannie Hirsch

Named for the University’s fourth president, the Z Society’s Edgar F. Shannon Award recognizes an exemplary graduating student from each of the University’s schools.

MSMIT Award for Excellence in Leadership and Technology
Erika Lee Elliston, Arun Gambhir, and Katherine Lee

The IT faculty at McIntire bestows this award on graduate students who distinguish themselves for understanding how technology contributes to business value and for serving as an exemplar of the M.S. in MIT Program’s objectives.

Lenox-Conyngham Scholars
Alexandra Hartwig and Kevin Miner

The Lenox-Conyngham Scholarship is a full scholarship offered to graduating McIntire students toward the completion of a one-year master of philosophy program at the University of Cambridge. Successful candidates are selected based on well-rounded pursuits, academic merit, public service, and the potential for students to be “renaissance leaders for tomorrow’s business challenges.”

Global Commerce Scholars
Samuel Lisner, Kevin Miner, and Jackson Murphy

This select group of students who pursued a deeper understanding of the global context of business and successfully completed a 5-credit independent global research thesis. Today, they wear the silver and blue cords to signify their earned recognition as Scholars in Global Commerce.

The Order of the Claw and Dagger lauds the graduating McIntire Class of 2021. In particular, the Order honors the above students for exemplifying the tenets of Honor, Excellence, and Humility.

*In addition, throughout the school year, the Order honors students each month for these same tenets.
