Fred Missel is the Director of Design and Development for the University of Virginia Foundation. He joined the Foundation in November of 2000 and oversees the management of the Foundation’s development projects, including the UVA Research Parks, Boar’s Head Complex, UVA Health System precinct, property rezoning and entitlements, and master planning efforts. He continues to oversee the development of state-of-the-art laboratories, Class A office buildings, a squash and tennis complex, a children’s medical center, ambulatory surgery facility, and an industrial research facility, as well as numerous other projects.

Missel’s experience prior to arrival at the Foundation includes 10 years of private sector civil engineering, landscape architecture and planning work across the mid-Atlantic region. He taught land development planning and technology planning at the University of Virginia. Missel is the Chair of the Albemarle County Architectural Review Board.

Missel has an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Social Work from Albright College and holds a master's degree in Landscape Architecture and a master's degree in Planning from the University of Virginia School of Architecture.
