Online Learning Checklist

·         Make sure you have access to a computer.

o    Be sure you have access to a computer. If you don't, and need to purchase one, go to a local store or local supplier.

§  Student Financial Services (SFS) has established a process by which students can submit a request for financial support to help pay for these technology-related costs.

·         Check your Internet connection.

o    Check to be sure you can connect with your laptop/other device to the Internet from where you plan to attend classes, using your Internet Service Provider (ISP) (Comcast, CenturyLink, Ting, etc.). You may need to make alternative connectivity arrangements (go to another location, obtain a WiFi hotspot, etc.). Note: Some Internet/cable providers are announcing changes to Internet access, including the ability to access WiFi hotspots for free. Please consider these options.

·         Check for notifications often.

o    Check your UVA email account and/or notifications in Blackboard (or UVaCollab) on instructions regarding your online course meetings, online tools, or updated course materials.

·         Prepare to use Zoom (our virtual web conferencing) for virtual/online classes.

o    Create your McIntire Zoom account, install, and learn how to use Zoom (McIntire has licensed Zoom Pro for students)

o    Test your ability to use Zoom prior to your first Zoom meeting.

·         Prepare to use Blackboard or UVACollab (Depending on what your faculty are using for your course).

·         Get help with technology-related questions.

o    The McIntire Help Desk can assist you in installing Zoom and Blackboard and accessing the McIntire lab PCs. They are available 8 a.m.-5 p.m. M-F at 434-924-7988 or helpdesk@comm.virginia.edu

o    The UVA Help Desk can assist you with UVaCollab or Zoom and is available 24/7/365. They can be contacted in a variety of ways.
