Edward Swindler is a 45-year media executive, including 32 years at NBC Universal, where he was Chief Operating Officer of the nation’s largest national TV advertising group and President of Strategy and Operations for NBC Broadcasting. He retired as President of Domestic TV Distribution, and since 2017 has advised senior leaders at Fox Corp, CNN, Dick Clark Productions, Fox News, and startups.

After six years as a journalist and an award-winning News Director, Mr. Swindler joined NBC, where he managed sales and pricing strategy for $8 billion of ad sales. He also supervised NBCU program-acquisition analysis, including $27 billion of sports and Olympic rights, served as NBCU’s first Quality Leader under a GE-wide initiative, contributed to the start up of Hulu, and greenlit a small but profitable AVOD service. Currently, he is a media consultant and angel investor and adviser.

Mr. Swindler sat on the boards of The Weather Company and the addressable advertising company Invidi (observer status, after buying an equity stake for NBCU) and is a Director of UVA’s student owned-and-operated digital news site, WUVANews.com.

At McIntire, Mr. Swindler teaches “Introduction to the Business of Media,” analyzing the business dynamics of each media sector, focusing on the management of disruptive transformation, including marketing and advertising, customer relationships, and corporate strategy. He has also hosted J-term UVA students in NYC for many years, to speak directly to top media executives.
