Application Process

Start Your Online Application

We take a holistic approach to evaluating your application, so it is important to present a well-rounded view of your academics, experiences, and motivation. We encourage you to start an application early, review the essay questions in advance, choose recommenders, and begin collecting required information. Applicants may access their applications at any time and make changes before submitting for official review. Once submitted, you will be unable to make further changes to your application. Your complete application will include the components detailed below.

Essay Prompts
  1. Required: In just one or two sentences, please explain your near-term career goal.

  2. Required: Please describe a situation where you needed to collaborate or closely communicate with someone whose life perspective or cultural background was very different from your own. Please reflect on any challenges you faced, the strengths you brought to the situation, and areas for improvement. Please indicate what you learned about yourself and what you would do differently next time (500-word limit).

  3. Optional: If there is further information that you believe would be helpful to the admission committee, please feel free to provide it (500-word limit).

Test Requirements

You are not required to submit a GMAT or GRE exam score as part of your application.  If you voluntarily provide an exam scores, it will be considered in evaluating your application for admission.  The admissions committee reserves the right to ask for additional information, including but not limited to a test scores, before rendering a decision.

If you have, or expect to have, an undergraduate degree from a college or university outside of the U.S. and English is not your native language, you will need to submit a valid TOEFL or IELTS score. To be competitive, your TOEFL score must be a minimum of 100 (iBT), or a minimum overall band score of 7.5 for IELTS. Candidates whose primary language is not English and who have completed an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university that included a minimum of two years of residency in the U.S. are not required to provide a TOEFL or IELTS score. The admission committee reserves the right to request additional verification of English language proficiency that could include specific coursework or TOEFL or IELTS testing.

IELTS: Electronic IELTS scores must be submitted to our Electronic Download account directly by the IELTS test center. Please provide the following information to the test center when requesting your scores:

Transcripts or Credential Evaluation

Upload unofficial copies of transcripts from every college or university you have attended. Please redact your SSN or National ID before uploading unofficial transcripts. Applicants who are offered admission must arrange for your official/final transcript to be forwarded to the McIntire Graduate Admissions office (addresses below).

Students who completed coursework outside of the United States must submit a professional course-by-course credential evaluation of their official transcripts. This evaluation must be performed by a professional credential evaluator, with the report sent directly from the evaluator to the McIntire School of Commerce either electronically or to one of the addresses below. (Note: This requirement does not apply to students attending U.S. institutions who completed coursework outside of the United States as part of a study-abroad program.)

Letters of Recommendation

Request two letters of recommendation. At least one recommender must be someone who has taught you in an academic environment and can attest to your academic abilities. The online application allows you to add each recommender's name and contact information. They will receive and submit an online recommendation form. Once submitted, it will attach automatically to your file and you will receive confirmation.

Application Submission and Fee Payment

Pay the $75 non-refundable application fee online by credit card (American Express, Discover, or Mastercard) or by e-check. Once an application has been submitted, you will not be able to make changes.

Track Your Application

You can track your application's progress by logging into the application. Candidates are encouraged to keep copies of all admissions materials for their personal files. Every attempt will be made to review applications within the requested evaluation period (round). However, incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Missing documentation may result in holding an application until a later round.

Interview

If you have been selected for an interview, the Graduate Admissions Office will notify you.
