Who We Are
The Center for Real Estate and the Built Environment was established in 2021 to create and support collaborative cross-Grounds programming to promote the exchange of knowledge about real estate markets and their connections to society through the built environment. Our mission is to enhance the real estate experience at UVA for students, faculty, alumni, and industry partners.

Robert G. Byron, Chairman, Co-CEO, and Co-Founder of Blue Vista Capital Management, has more than 46 years of real estate investment management and transaction experience, having completed over $20 billion in real estate transactions in his career.
Keven Lindemann (A&S '91)
Vice Chair for Research, Executive Committee Member
Keven Lindemann's team is responsible for all the real estate data and analytics on the platform, with thousands of users at investment banks, fund managers, private equity firms, and public real estate investment trusts (REITs).
Ashley Mays (McIntire '02)

Ashley Mays is Chief of Place and Real Estate at Newark Alliance, where she is responsible for catalyzing investment and development opportunities in Newark, with a particular focus on the Halsey Street corridor.

J. Scott Adams (McIntire '88, Darden '92)
Scott Adams is a regional market leader for Colliers, a leading global real estate services and investment management company with operations in 68 countries.
Evan Baum (McIntire '15)
Evan Baum is a Vice President of Investments on the Real Estate Equity team at Ares Management, a publicly traded alternative investment manager.
Jason Bordainick (McIntire '02)
Jason Bordainick co-founded Hudson Valley Property Group with a vision to create a preeminent housing preservation firm, improving upon the availability, quality, and affordability of housing across the country.
Zachary Crowe (A&S '05)
Zachary Crowe is a Managing Director at The Carlyle Group in Washington, DC, focusing on investing in U.S. real estate opportunities, with a particular focus on multifamily, 55+ housing, and medical office properties.
Zander Geronimos (McIntire '14)
Zander Geronimos is the Head of Strategic Partnerships and Business Development for MetaProp, the most active early venture capital firm in proptech.
Summer K. Haltli (McIntire '05, Darden '10)
Summer Haltli leads FCP’s impact investing strategy in multifamily housing, with a focus on housing affordability and resident services.
Christopher Allen Harrison (McIntire '94, Education '96)
Christopher Allen Harrison began his career at The C.A. Harrison Companies LLC in 1998 while still playing professional football in the NFL. He began a full-time real estate development career in 2000 after retiring from the NFL.
David P. Howerton (Architecture '74)
As Chairman of Hart Howerton, David P. Howerton provides high-level strategy and is an active member of all planning/design teams and international projects in the firm's San Francisco and New York offices.
Madeline Jecklin (A&S '15)
Madeline Jecklin is the Vice President of Operations at Weinstein Properties, a third-generation family business that owns and operates over 20,000 units across Virginia, Texas, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia.
Ryan Johnson (McIntire '06)
Ryan Johnson has over 16 years of experience across the real estate, community development, and entrepreneurship industries. Johnson currently serves as a Managing Director of Real Estate for New Jersey Community Capital (NJCC), the largest community development financial institution in New Jersey.
Scott M. Kelley (McIntire '83)
Scott Kelley is the Founder and CEO of Aetos Capital Real Estate LP (“ACRE”) and has led each of the ACA funds. He has been responsible for making more than 50 investments in Japan, China, and Korea, totaling more than $10 billion in asset value.
George L. Maloomian (McIntire '74)
George Maloomian has led the commercial real estate development company in visioning, planning, and completion of exceptional development projects for over 30 years.
Mary McCarthy (Architecture ’75)
Mary McCarthy is a real estate industry executive with expertise in institutional capital raising, design, and executive recruiting.
Chase Minnifield (A&S '10)
Chase Minnifield is the Founder and CEO of EZ Turn, a Forbes 30 Under 30 company and two-time Student Housing Business Award recipient for the best university vendor solution.
Susan Williamson Ross (Architecture '83)
Susan Ross is President and CEO of 1906 Group, a privately held asset creation company in the real estate development, asset management, and construction sector.
Drew Sutton (McIntire '10)
Drew Sutton is a Partner at Southeast Apartment Investors, a private investment firm focused on the development and acquisition of residential properties located in the Southeastern United States.
Owen D. Thomas (Engineering '83)
Owen D. Thomas is the Chairman and CEO of BXP. He is a Director of Lehman Brothers Holdings and served as its first Chairman from 2012 until 2013, when he joined Boston Properties.
Philip Todd (A&S '15)
Philip Todd is a Partner in Dallas-based real estate development and investment firm Todd Interests.
Earl Webb (McIntire ’78)
Earl Webb has been deeply involved in all aspects of commercial real estate for over 35 years. He began his career in 1981 as an Investment Banker in the Capital Markets division of Continental Bank (now Bank of America).
