M.S. in Commerce

Academics

UVA's M.S. in Commerce will challenge you to integrate the skills you developed as a liberal arts, science, or engineering student. In just 10 months, you will gain a strong foundation in business, specialize in one of three tracks, and broaden your perspective through a global immersion experience.

Accelerate the learning curve.

You may be surprised at how quickly your perspective shifts and how rapidly you can acquire the analytical tools needed to assess complex business opportunities. What typically takes years to learn "on the job," is quickly absorbed as you engage in carefully selected case studies, team projects, and in-class discussions with industry leaders designed to sharpen your critical thinking and refine your executive presentation skills.

Develop a specialty.

Business Analytics

Use data to make informed decisions. You'll learn how to analyze real-time data sets in order to gain insights—into customer behavior, how to solve a business challenge, or how to predict the next opportunity. You'll dissect and interpret data from real organizations, helping them become more productive, innovative, and efficient.

Finance

You'll learn the hard skills of asset allocation, corporate valuation and restructuring, and financial engineering. You'll dig deep into the complexities of financial analysis and decision making, and you'll gain the technical skills needed for careers in corporate finance, investment banking, asset management, or financial consulting.

Marketing & Management

A fluency in marketing and management is widely relevant to careers in consulting, brand management, project management, and general business. You’ll learn how to shape a successful brand, structure a project effectively, and lead companies in speaking clearly—and persuasively—to their customers.

Global Immersion Experience

Every company—and culture—has its own way of doing business. While discussing the nuances of a country’s economics or customs is valuable, experiencing them firsthand is transformative. The Global Immersion Experience (GIE) is a built-in opportunity for you to learn the dynamics of the business environment of one major region of the world.

Faculty Leadership

McIntire faculty are at the forefront of their fields as researchers, practitioners, and leaders of professional organizations. But above all, they are inspiring teachers who make it their most important priority to work closely with their students. Our highly collaborative approach to teaching means that you'll be interacting with experts from a wide range of disciplines: analytics, finance, marketing, advertising strategy, management, consumer behavior, public policy, social issues, and leadership. You will graduate with a cross-disciplinary skill set that will give you a leading edge in your field.
